“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1,2
Gravity is the force that makes objects fall to the ground. The greater the mass, the greater the pull, and the closer two masses are to each other the greater the gravitational pull is. Here the two masses we will be talking about will be Sin and Holiness. Sin in us becomes greater as we live life focused on earthly things. There is a pull that acts upon us in the same manner that gravity does. Let’s examine this further with God’s word.
This world maintains a constant pull on all mankind. Constantly tugging at our sinful nature resulting in death, a consequence that we ourselves cannot escape. Paul explains this struggle with sin and how difficult it is for us with our own will do what is right. This great attraction that drives us to do at times the unthinkable has a solution, Jesus Christ.
Gravity, is all around us and we cannot escape it. Likewise, with this world we cannot escape it & our tendency to sin is ever present. We cannot forget there is another attraction. God is always calling us to be Holy, to live apart from sin, so we wont fall into temptation. The closer we are the more likely we are to fall into it sooner or later. Are you practicing sin? God in His mercy provided us life in Christ so that through obedience we may put to death our sinful nature. How? Now that we have life by faith in Jesus Christ we can focus our life, thoughts and actions on those things from above. As we do this He increases and we decrease to the things of this world. As our attraction becomes more focused on the heavenly, our attraction to holiness is also increases and out attraction to sin and to this world decreases. Keeping us from falling.
Today, we can learn to live lives here on earth free from falling and with the power to control the force of sin that pulls us towards those things we once struggled with. As we walk in obedience we begin walking in higher places with higher expectations. How is gravity affecting you?
