Mommy Moments

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” -Psalm 127:3

My mission and my calling is to leave an inheritance that is incorruptible. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” -Matthew 6:19-21

Mommy Moment #8: Trust. A word that was becoming tangible as the months went by, as my belly began to grow and signs that the due date was near. Although I had no idea and still can’t fathom God’s thoughts for my life. He thought of me when he was creating my little angel. He trusted me when I had not yet began to trust him with motherhood. Is trust tangible? Yes!! I see him everyday, give hugs and kisses and tuck him into bed. As the months and years go by I am learning that I solely depend on God to be the mother my son needs. As I rely on His word for guidance my fears become a whisper and His blanket of peace cover me. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” -Psalm 27:1… 7.11.14

Mommy Moment #7: Discipline is not easy to either give or receive, yet so necessary. As a mother it  is difficult seeing those little eye staring back at me filled with tears and remorse hoping to avoid what’s coming. How does God feel I wonder… with a heavy heart he disciplines us so we can understand our wicked ways and turn from them. Being a good parent isn’t always teaching our children that their is a reward for every good action. It is also teaching them there are rewards for every bad action. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” -Hebrews 12:11

Mommy Moment #6: The kitchen can be a classroom and not just a place for women or adults. What an opportunity to teach, share & allow your child to create his/her own healthy meals. With parent supervision of course! 🙂 Watching my son prepare and plate his grilled cheese sandwich, fresh fruit an a tall glass of water was priceless!! “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” -Proverbs 22:6

Mommy Moment #5: “NO! & the word SPANKING.” What does that mean to your child? Does it have meaning at all? When I tell my son “NO”, I am sure to follow that with the reason why and its consequences. Allowing our children to learn from their mistakes is important. Teaching them rules, boundaries, consequences & applying discipline is critical. These are life’s biggest lessons learned first at home. Don’t constantly bend the rules or we will raise lawless children without restraint. Our role as parent is not to give them everything, but to follow through with discipline. I’ll be one to admit that it is not always easy and my least favorite part of motherhood. Seeing a disappointed little face breaks my heart, but it is our responsibility. Always discipline in love and remember there is a difference when discipline is applied out of disappointment rather than anger. Let’s not wait for the school systems, church or law enforcement be their only means of learning. “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death.” -Proverbs 23:13,14 … 1.7.13

Mommy Moment #4: I am a mother. Whether I like it or not I am. Whether I am competent or not, I am. From conception to childbirth, I am. God created me ready and able to become a mother. I didn’t choose myself, He chose me. There are many times I realize that I don’t know how to be all who He has called me to be, but I hold on to this one truth… He chose me, created me & therefore I am.

I am helper, I am comfort, I am healer, I am forgiveness, I am bravery, I am strong, I am giving, I am kind, I am teacher, I am patience, I am courageous, I am discipline, I am safety, I am encouragement, I am wisdom, I am support, I am loyal, I am trust, I am passion, I am love… I am a mother. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” -John 15:16 … 12.18.12

Mommy Moment #3: One of my favorite times of the day is bedtime with my son. I know that putting our children to bed early might be a way of getting some personal time, catch up with chores or just plain getting them out of your hair 🙂 This moment is special and I believe the rest of the world can wait. To be able to sing to, hold, caress, comfort & kiss them till they fall asleep is priceless. Bedtime above all a great opportunity to pray over your children & seek God for them. They are growing fast and experiencing so much to fast. I pray for protection, health, wisdom, to be a better parent, forgiveness, salvation, guidance, peace, understanding… the list goes on. Let us take time and make time to stand in the gap for our children. ““I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” -Ezekiel 22:30… 11.29.12

Mommy Moment #2: What is your daily routine after homework and a long day at work. When we quiet things down, I love & am amazed at how my son opens up and shares things about his day. Our children are away from us for hours and experience so many things. We need to give them time to unwind and reflect on today before beginning another. Make time everyday to sit with your children to talk… & more importantly just “listen” to them. Turn off the TV, video games, radio, Ipad computer, cell phone and spend good quality uninterrupted time with them. They grow fast and there are so many distractions that can rob us from connecting with out children. “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” -Ephesians 5:16 … 11.15.12

Mommy Moment #1: I love parent teacher conferences. It is a great opportunity to build relationship and share concerns. We can also gain some insight or discernment in their character, education style & type of discipline our children receive daily. May God bless every teacher, coach, counselor, principal, custodian & lunch personnel who play a role in creating a safe environment for our children to thrive and learn! Amen 🙂 … 11.9.12
